PAPER CUTS

'Wycinanki' or paper cuts are a traditional Polish folk art. They first appeared in the 19th century, when they decorated the inside walls of rural homes. New paper cuts were put up every year at Easter.

They are made exclusively by women, who use sheep-shearing scissors to cut out the detailed designs.

VODOU FONDOU

Vodou (Voodoo) means 'spirit'. It offers its believers access to healing powers, a connection with relatives and friends who have died, and a confirmation of identity through tradition and history.

The term vodou has been misunderstood and feared for years but it expresses the philosphical and religious belief in balancing rest with exertion and staying cool.
